Up through the redwoods, back down the coast. One cottage for all three nights, two days of paddling and pedalling, and a lighthouse you can climb.
You were right about Sunday. It's the cheapest and the most available, for one simple reason — it contains no Friday or Saturday nights.
| Option | Premium nights | 3 nights, rough | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| A · Fri 28 – Mon 31 | 2 | ~$1,950 | Priciest. But it's the only one that catches the lighthouse lens tour properly |
| B · Sat 29 – Tue 1 | 1 | ~$1,750 | The compromise. Buys back Saturday and Sunday dinner choice |
| C · Sun 30 – Wed 2 pick this | 0 | ~$1,545 | Cheapest, best availability, no Saturday minimums. Also dodges Great Day in Elk |
Weekend rates here run 15–40% above midweek — Brewery Gulch averages $515 Sun–Thu against $718 Fri/Sat. Saturday nights also trigger two-night minimums almost everywhere and sell out first.
The one cost: Café Beaujolais, The Brickery and Fog Eater all close Monday and Tuesday. Fixable — Trillium and MacCallum House open every night, and Cucina Verona in Fort Bragg does a 3-course Tuesday dinner for $25. Book Trillium ahead for both nights.
Also worth knowing: Great Day in Elk — its 50th — is Sat 29 Aug, 17 miles south. It fills Elk and Albion and puts traffic on Highway 1. Option C misses it entirely.
Fast inland route up, coast road back. Different scenery each way, and you're never retracing. Tap the markers.
Base in Mendocino village (walk to dinner, headlands out the door) or Little River, five minutes south and cheaper. Not Anderson Valley — you'd drive an hour to the coast every day.

| Mendocino Grove no | 1.4 mi S | from $199 | Heated tents and real beds, but a shared bathhouse |
| Brewery Gulch maybe | 1.8 mi S | ~$515 | Over budget — but they run a "stay 3, third night free" offer that would land near $343. Worth one phone call |
